ONE WILSHIRE
One Wilshire is an office building located in downtown Los Angeles, once claimed by Wired as the world’s most densely populated Meet-Me room. Built in 1966, the building has undergone several renovations throughout the years to maintain functionality. In the early 1990’s, it began housing largely telecommunication companies, and in the mid-2000’s it was upgraded to serve as a colocation space.
Fast forward to the present day and the facility infrastructure is once again being renovated to serve tenants with demanding technology requirements. To help them through this process Hines, One Wilshire’s Property Manager, hired PLANNET to do a series of critical infrastructure projects as their General Contractor.
These projects were conducted to support some of the industry’s densest applications and continue to elevate One Wilshire as a top-rated contender in the data center world. They included the 29th Floor 1500 KW Power and Cooling project, the 29th Floor Structural Reinforcement project, and the Critical Security Upgrades project.
The work involved extensive upgrades to the power and cooling infrastructure, including controls and network infrastructure, and structural reinforcement of the 29th floor. Scope included new generators, unit substation, and medium voltage electrical feeders to support new standby power systems from the basement up to the 29th floor. Structural reinforcement activities encompassed strengthening the building to increase heavy IT equipment capacity.
The Critical Security Upgrades project included primarily additions and enhancements to the electronic security systems, as well as designated upgrades to the physical security features of the facility. This was comprised of replacing all security systems with new CCTV /access control systems in the building core and throughout all critical infrastructure spaces.
All work was completed while the building was active, with no downtime effects on building tenants.
